Chromate Pre-Treatment

Morestel powder coaters are able to offer a full chromate conversion process for aluminium products as required in the Australian and New Zealand standard AS3715.

A chromate conversion coating is an amorphous film produced on the surface of the aluminum by a chemical reaction with the solution containing hexavent chrome and other compounds.

The most commonly used chromate for aluminum extrusion etc. is gold in colour and is often referred to as chrome / chromate, put simply, the chromate coating.

Chromate:

  • Improves paint adhesion

  • Improves corrosion resistance

As soon as aluminum is extruded into the required profile, the surface begins to react with the oxygen in the air to form a layer on it’s surface.

This oxide layer and other surface contamination needs to be removed to enable the chromate to be fully formed. Efficient rinsing between the chemical stages is also critical to ensure optimum performance of the coating.

Our tanks are 2400mm x 1000mm so we can do a range of products including window grills, doors, letter boxes, light boxes and various extrusions.
